Abilities are a combination of talents and skills not innate to a character. They all must be learned.
Any ability possessed either by everyone or at minimum the vast majority of people is classified as a common ability. Each and every character possesses the following abilities at a basic level of familiarity (+2).
List of Common Skills
- Native Language
Any ability which can not be used without training.
List of Learned Abilities
- Knowledge: History/Sociology
- Survival: Forest/Tundra/Jungle/Water
- Trade-skill: Blacksmith/Jeweler/Tanner/Apothecary/Alchemy/Craftsmen
Any skill which is focused mainly on its martial value.

Each Skill has an associated attribute that is normally used in calculating the potential effects.
*Familiarity can not be purchased. All common skills begin at familiar level.
